🧩 Connecting Policy and Practice

🧩  How can policy processes in Africa become more inclusive, connected, and impactful?

In this short statement, Johanes Agbahey, speaker of the working group Policy for Rural Development, explains how more than 200 practitioners across the continent exchange experiences, foster peer learning, and bring tested approaches into ongoing projects.

During the recent SNRD Africa conference in Zambia, the working group reflected on emerging policy topics such as agroecology, food system transformation, and state functionality — and discussed how to turn these often abstract global concepts into tangible implementation.

Johanes also highlights the importance of engaging non-state actors — civil society and farmer organizations — in shaping and implementing policies, ensuring that participation goes beyond “a seat at the table” to genuine contribution and ownership.

“Implementation is where usually all these things fail,” Johanes reminds us.
“Our vision is to make sense of all these global concepts and bring them together for real impact on the ground.”
