DESCRIPTION:ICTs Can Empower Rural Women in Your Agricultural Project – Learn How!\nWe’re all aware of the tremendous opportunities that ICTs offer to agriculture. In the reality of our agricultural projects\, however\, we witness that technology-driven advances are rather incremental and the benefits are often reaped unequally. Especially in terms of gender\, there’s clearly a huge gap when it comes to access to ICTs and using them in rural areas. \nThis is agonizing. Digitally illiterate female farmers could certainly benefit greatly from agricultural projects providing them with interfaces that are adapted so that they can use them – as long as it’s culturally appropriate. \n\nGlobally\, women use the internet 12% less than men. In Africa\, it’s 25%. While the gender gap has narrowed in most regions since 2013\, it has widened in Africa!\n(International Telecommunication Union) \n\nWhat will be your takeaway?\nFranziska Kreische of the research institute betterplace lab has gained substantial experience while working with development projects in Uganda. In the webinar\, she’ll speak about how rural women can be enabled and encouraged to use ICT components. \nThere’re many lessons to be learned\, applicable to other projects. SUMMARY:Smart Investments\, Big Returns: How Understanding Financial Data Can Transform Nutrition
DESCRIPTION:Learning from country experiences collecting and using budget data to improve their nutrition programs\nCurrent estimates suggest that current funding is not sufficient to address malnutrition. Part of the difficulty in securing the funding needed to tackle malnutrition is a lack of how much funding has already been allocated to nutrition and how much and where the funding gaps are. \nA number of countries have embarked on nutrition budget analysis exercises\, designed to identify available funding\, highlight existing gaps in funding\, and advocate for smarter investments in nutrition. Nearly 20 countries have completed this work\, often through a framework provided by the Scaling Up Nutrition Movement. SPRING’s interviews with representatives from 11 of these countries illustrated the complexities inherent in sharing these findings and the potential benefits from collecting and sharing data on a topic that is known best for the lack of information available. \nJoin SPRING for a webinar to learn more about the ways in which countries have used findings from nutrition budget analysis activities to identify and coordinate nutrition across sectors\, advocate for increased funding for nutrition\, and manage the use of nutrition funds. DESCRIPTION:Convention on the Conservation of Migratory Species of Wild Animals — CoP12\nTheir Future is Our Future – Sustainable Development for Wildlife & People\nThe CMS CoP will place particular emphasis on the fact that migratory animals provide vital services that satisfy people’s everyday needs – as a source of food and medicine\, as pollinators and seed dispersers\, and as a means of pest control. Migratory species can also fire our imagination with their majestic presence and beauty and inspire us with their intrepid journeys across deserts and oceans. COP12 presents an opportunity to place the cause of nature conservation centre stage in the wider debate about the future of the planet and the fate of its residents – human and animal. \nIt is the first time that a CMS CoP will be held in Asia. The actual CoP will be preceded by a high-level panel (22 October)\, which will be moderated by a leading international broadcast journalist and will involve dignitaries and celebrities including executives of international organizations and prominent goodwill ambassadors. \nOn the eve of CoP\, an award ceremony under the Migratory Species Champion Programme (Champion Night) will be held (22 October). DESCRIPTION:Towards Implementing the Agenda 2030 – The Role of Food and Nutrition Security\, Youth Employment and Climate Action in African Rural Development\nSNRD Africa and the host programme GIZ-CAADP invite to the conference on 2–6 May 2017 in Pretoria\, South Africa \nThe objectives of the conference are: \nUnderstand current dynamics and opportunities of food security\, youth employment and climate action and their role in implementing the Agenda 2030 in rural areas in Africa\nLearn from experience with food security\, youth employment and climate action across African countries and SNRD member programmes \nBetter enshrine the topics of the special initiative “One World – No Hunger” by German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) in the objectives and structure of SNRD AfricaReflect on how could SNRD Africa effectively contribute to a development-oriented imple-mentation of the Agenda 2030The conference will comprise plenary sessions\, concurrent mini-workshops on specific subtopics of the Agenda 2030 and the related roles of food security\, youth employment and climate action\, open space sessions and marketplace. One-day field trips are scheduled for Saturday 6 May as part of the post-conference programme. Therefore\, different destinations will be offered and communicated beforehand to participants.
