SUMMARY:How to Integrate Living Incomes in Agricultural Value Chain Promotion?
DESCRIPTION:Webinar #12 of the ValueLinks Plus series on agricultural value chain promotion\nWe will have a closer look at the essentials of the living income concept. How is it calculated and how are living income reference prices set up? Where are we at in terms of its application right now? How should it be applied in the context of the ValueLinks approach and what will be its likely relevance in future? \nGuests\n\nEberhard Krain\, GIZ Sectoral Department (Competence Centre 4D30)\nTim Loos\, GIZ Sector Programme Sustainability and Standards in Global Agriculture Value Chains\n\nModeration\nAlfons Eiligmann\, International ValueLinks Association \nHost\nCarolin Voigt\, GIZ Sector Project Agricultural Trade\, Agribusiness\, Agricultural Finance (SP AAA) \nIs this relevant to you?\nYou promote agricultural value chains development and want to learn more about the approach of living incomes?\nYou have no idea (yet) whether living incomes are a valuable aspirational goal to strive for\, or far from achievable\, or still not high enough to make a real change towards better living conditions???\nYou want to get an idea how the approach is used within project implementation for agribased value chain promotion\, e.g. in Ghana or Malawi? \nIf the answer to one of these questions is ‘yes’\, our webinar #12 will be worth your while! We will focus on the essentials of the concept\, explain how a living income is calculated\, how a reference price is determined and how it has already benefited countries to negotiate for higher commodity prices and encouraged our own governments to think of due diligence regulations. \nOur guest Eberhard Krain will explain the concept of living incomes\, the calculation of living incomes and reference prices and tell us about his country experiences from Malawi and Madagascar. \nThe second guest\, Till Loos\, provides insights to the cocoa value chain in Ghana and Ivory Coast. He’ll tell us more about the outcomes of recent conferences in Europe. We will also briefly introduce the community of practice on living incomes. \nYour takeaway\nWebinar #12 provides an open platform for exchange amongst colleagues and experts working in the field of agricultural value chain promotion within and outside of GIZ. You can share your own experiences\, your knowledge and contribute good practice examples as well as learn from others. Please\, feel free to forward this invitation to interested colleagues.\nTo make sure that we cover your interests during the webinar\, you can also submit your questions beforehand to Carolin Voigt (carolin.voigt@giz.de). \nProducts\nWe’ll record the webinar for the purpose of video documentation. The video will be distributed to the public after the webinar.\nWe’ll distribute the edited recording together with the presentations and a brief written summary of key messages to all participants. \nThe edited video documentation of our last Webinar #10 on Energy Mapping along Agricultural Value Chains is available here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VZpsj-BuHuY&t=28s> \nData privacy\nPlease\, note that with your participation in the webinar – either virtual or physical – you give consent to use your personal data according to the European General Data Privacy Regulation (2016/679) \nDownload Declaration \nOrganisation\nThe webinar is hosted by the SP AAA in collaboration with the SNRD Africa Working Group Agribusiness and Inclusive Value Chain Development (ABIVCD)\, and the GIZ Sectoral Department (FMB). \nPhoto:  Tea pluckers at the foot of the Mulanje Mountains\, Malawi\, striving for a better wage\, by Ethical Tea Partnership

SUMMARY:What Works in Rural Youth Employment Promotion?
DESCRIPTION:Webinar focusing on good practices and lessons from GIZ programmes with regard to rural youth employment\nSince Africa’s (rural) youth is rapidly growing in numbers\, advising on job creation has become a major objective of development cooperation. \nFor German development employment cooperation the promotion in rural areas with a focus on youth is still a relatively new topic. While the issue is becoming more pressing\, very few projects explicitly and comprehensively address the issue. \nNevertheless\, many projects of both rural and economic development\, are addressing different aspects and a range of learning experiences is already available. The Sector Project commissioned a study to outline the different approaches to rural youth employment promotion (RYEP) within GIZ programmes and distill their main success factors and lessons learned. \nThe consultants Claudia Knobloch and Christian Pirzer of Endeva are going to present the main findings and highlight two of the 11 case studies in an interactive interview. There will be plenty of time to discuss with representatives of the featured case studies\, but also amongst each other about the results and their implications.

SUMMARY:Comparing the Different Use of ICT4Ag to Inform Farmers in Africa and Asia -- Upcoming Webinar
DESCRIPTION:Members of the two SNRDs will share their experiences with ICT4Ag — from Africa to Asia and vice versa! \nSNRD Africa’s ICT4Ag Community of Practice joins up with SNRD Asia to exchange on how African and Asian farmers can easily access information using latest information and communication technology for agriculture. \n\nToday’s fast-evolving ICT represents a tremendous opportunity for rural populations to improve productivity\, to enhance food and nutrition security\, to access markets\, and to find employment in a revitalized sector  (World Bank 2017\, ICT in Agriculture\, Handbook). \nYour Content Goes Here\, Your Content Goes HereSNRD Africa recently released a new study on the use of ICT in agriculture. It covers 52 ICT4Ag solutions which have been developed for 29 GIZ projects\, operating in 34 countries on both continents. \nIn order to contribute to cross-boundary exchange between the two networks\, the upcoming webinar will have a closer look at a particular ICT4Ag solution that has been applied in India — comparing it to similar implementation in Africa. Lessons-learnt will also draw from specific failures on both continents! \nIs this relevant to you? \nThe webinar is designed for project staff of agricultural and rural development projects from both SNRDs who are interested in sharing their ICT4Ag-related experiences with colleagues in other parts of the world. \nWhat will be your takeaway? \nYou will learn how to use ICT4Ag to improve farmers’ climate resilience\, provide them with access to information\, extension services and finance in two very different contexts. \nPhoto by Klaus Wohlmann\nPhoto at the top by GIZ/Angelika Jakob \nWhat will be your takeaway? \nYou will learn how to use ICT4Ag to improve farmers’ climate resilience\, provide them with access to information\, extension services and finance in two very different contexts. \nThe presenters \nThe discussion will be led by Florian Moder\, who has gained considerable insights during the setup of the Network for Information on Climate (Ex) Change (NICE+) in India.
