DESCRIPTION:Learning from country experiences collecting and using budget data to improve their nutrition programs\nCurrent estimates suggest that current funding is not sufficient to address malnutrition. Part of the difficulty in securing the funding needed to tackle malnutrition is a lack of how much funding has already been allocated to nutrition and how much and where the funding gaps are. \nA number of countries have embarked on nutrition budget analysis exercises\, designed to identify available funding\, highlight existing gaps in funding\, and advocate for smarter investments in nutrition. Nearly 20 countries have completed this work\, often through a framework provided by the Scaling Up Nutrition Movement. DESCRIPTION:Convention on the Conservation of Migratory Species of Wild Animals — CoP12\nTheir Future is Our Future – Sustainable Development for Wildlife & People\nThe CMS CoP will place particular emphasis on the fact that migratory animals provide vital services that satisfy people’s everyday needs – as a source of food and medicine\, as pollinators and seed dispersers\, and as a means of pest control. Migratory species can also fire our imagination with their majestic presence and beauty and inspire us with their intrepid journeys across deserts and oceans. COP12 presents an opportunity to place the cause of nature conservation centre stage in the wider debate about the future of the planet and the fate of its residents – human and animal. \nIt is the first time that a CMS CoP will be held in Asia. The actual CoP will be preceded by a high-level panel (22 October)\, which will be moderated by a leading international broadcast journalist and will involve dignitaries and celebrities including executives of international organizations and prominent goodwill ambassadors. \nOn the eve of CoP\, an award ceremony under the Migratory Species Champion Programme (Champion Night) will be held (22 October). Several governments\, organizations and companies will be recognized as Migratory Species Champions for their long-term support to initiatives that benefit migratory species. \nNote for SNRD Africa members\nThe sister network SNRD Asia reaches out to you to get an idea who will be coming or is interested in coming. DESCRIPTION:Guest Lecture on Strengthening Farmer Based Organizations\nEvent in Bonn // Skype for Business stream available\nThis talk will examine the dynamics of enabling framework conditions for farmer based organisations.\nThe presentation will be looking at two key drivers for the development of institutional structures that can support or obstruct the growth of inclusive and economically viable FBOs: organizational governance and state policy. \nNew evidence will be presented from a long-term research project on agricultural cooperatives in Uganda’s coffee sector\, in addition to data from other sub-Saharan African countries. \nThe talk will conclude with recommendations for the analysis of governance structures and state policy to help identify context and sector specific weaknesses and develop effective interventions to strengthen an enabling environment\, at meso and macro levels\, for FBO development and growth. \nFarmer based organisation — Critical for rural transformation\nIn view of the increasing globalization and commercialization of agriculture and the urgent need for rural transformation\, FBOs such as farmer associations and cooperatives\, producer and marketing groups are rapidly gaining importance. The main reason being that small agricultural holdings lack assets and economies of scale to meet changing market requirements in terms of delivery volumes\, supply reliability as well as quality demands and consistency. Smallholders are disadvantaged regarding access to financial services\, appropriate and new technologies as well as remunerative markets. \nIn the capacity development strategies of German development cooperation\, organizational development plays a key role alongside human resources capacity development\, network development and the promotion of improved framework conditions.
