SUMMARY:M&E of Employment Effects in Rural Development Projects
DESCRIPTION:Training workshop in Abidjan\n\n\n\n\nWe introduce the RWI methodology to enable projects to link current intermediate outcomes to employment effects. In the workshop you’ll learn how to apply this new methodology in your projects\, specifically how to better measure and report your employment impact and effects. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTarget group/ participants \nOpen to all GIZ staff\, specifically monitoring and evaluation experts \nLanguage \nThe workshop will be conducted in English \nBackground \nIn Africa alone\, 440 million young people will enter the labour market by 2030. Therefore\, the creation of employment opportunities is a major objective in development cooperation. In parallel\, it is becoming increasingly important to measure the impact and effects of our projects on employment. Together with the Leibniz Institute for Economic Research (RWI)\, we created a pragmatic methodology to link current (project) outcomes to employment effects. \nYou want to participate? \nRegistration is open until 20.08.2019\, kindly email to finja.hartwig@giz.de from the SV. \nPlease inform the SNRD conference organisation team (irenepridu@gmail.com) in case your arrival day changes because of your participation in the workshop. \nNB: Seats are limited.

SUMMARY:How to Convince Stakeholders to Invest in a Landscape — The Economics of Forest Landscape Restoration
DESCRIPTION:Webinar with case studies from Ethiopia and Madagascar\, conducted by the FLR group which forms part of the CCLNRM Working Group\nWhat are costs and benefits of the various FLR options in the landscape? How can one convince stakeholders of the positive return of their investment in FLR measures?
\nIntervenants :\n\nM. SUMMARY:Comparing the Different Use of ICT4Ag to Inform Farmers in Africa and Asia -- Upcoming Webinar
DESCRIPTION:Members of the two SNRDs will share their experiences with ICT4Ag — from Africa to Asia and vice versa! \nSNRD Africa’s ICT4Ag Community of Practice joins up with SNRD Asia to exchange on how African and Asian farmers can easily access information using latest information and communication technology for agriculture. \n\nToday’s fast-evolving ICT represents a tremendous opportunity for rural populations to improve productivity\, to enhance food and nutrition security\, to access markets\, and to find employment in a revitalized sector  (World Bank 2017\, ICT in Agriculture\, Handbook). \nYour Content Goes Here\, Your Content Goes HereSNRD Africa recently released a new study on the use of ICT in agriculture. It covers 52 ICT4Ag solutions which have been developed for 29 GIZ projects\, operating in 34 countries on both continents. \nIn order to contribute to cross-boundary exchange between the two networks\, the upcoming webinar will have a closer look at a particular ICT4Ag solution that has been applied in India — comparing it to similar implementation in Africa. Lessons-learnt will also draw from specific failures on both continents! \nIs this relevant to you? \nThe webinar is designed for project staff of agricultural and rural development projects from both SNRDs who are interested in sharing their ICT4Ag-related experiences with colleagues in other parts of the world. \nWhat will be your takeaway? \nYou will learn how to use ICT4Ag to improve farmers’ climate resilience\, provide them with access to information\, extension services and finance in two very different contexts. \nPhoto by Klaus Wohlmann\nPhoto at the top by GIZ/Angelika Jakob \nWhat will be your takeaway? \nYou will learn how to use ICT4Ag to improve farmers’ climate resilience\, provide them with access to information\, extension services and finance in two very different contexts. \nThe presenters \nThe discussion will be led by Florian Moder\, who has gained considerable insights during the setup of the Network for Information on Climate (Ex) Change (NICE+) in India. Colleagues from SNRD Africa with know-how in providing farmers with extension services and finance will provide much more than a sounding board. \nWhere \nOnline via Skype4Buisness. SUMMARY:Bridging the Digital Gender Gap – ICT4Ag Working Group Webinar
DESCRIPTION:ICTs Can Empower Rural Women in Your Agricultural Project – Learn How!\nWe’re all aware of the tremendous opportunities that ICTs offer to agriculture. In the reality of our agricultural projects\, however\, we witness that technology-driven advances are rather incremental and the benefits are often reaped unequally. Especially in terms of gender\, there’s clearly a huge gap when it comes to access to ICTs and using them in rural areas. \nThis is agonizing. Digitally illiterate female farmers could certainly benefit greatly from agricultural projects providing them with interfaces that are adapted so that they can use them – as long as it’s culturally appropriate. \n\nGlobally\, women use the internet 12% less than men. In Africa\, it’s 25%. While the gender gap has narrowed in most regions since 2013\, it has widened in Africa!\n(International Telecommunication Union) \n\nWhat will be your takeaway?\nFranziska Kreische of the research institute betterplace lab has gained substantial experience while working with development projects in Uganda. In the webinar\, she’ll speak about how rural women can be enabled and encouraged to use ICT components. \nThere’re many lessons to be learned\, applicable to other projects. In particular\, Franziska will present Briding the Digital Gender Gap\, a new survey of betterplace\, and we will also hear about Women Plant Doctors 2.0 – a GIZ project in Tunisia with a tight focus on empowering women. \nIs this relevant to you?\nThis webinar is designed for project staff and decision makers in agricultural projects who want to crank up women’s involvement – who are considering to develop new ICT components or wish to prop up already existing ones. \nYou already have tons of questions that you would like to ask Franziska Kreische?\nKindly send your questions to julia.bayer@giz.de prior to the webinar. We’ll make sure that Franziska covers your points in her presentation\, or we’ll get to them during the Q&A part of the session! \nHow to join\nThe webinar is conducted online via Skype4Buisness. Contact the organisers to receive the logins. \nPlease feel free to forward the invite to others.

SUMMARY:Smart Investments\, Big Returns: How Understanding Financial Data Can Transform Nutrition
DESCRIPTION:Learning from country experiences collecting and using budget data to improve their nutrition programs\nCurrent estimates suggest that current funding is not sufficient to address malnutrition. Part of the difficulty in securing the funding needed to tackle malnutrition is a lack of how much funding has already been allocated to nutrition and how much and where the funding gaps are. \nA number of countries have embarked on nutrition budget analysis exercises\, designed to identify available funding\, highlight existing gaps in funding\, and advocate for smarter investments in nutrition. Nearly 20 countries have completed this work\, often through a framework provided by the Scaling Up Nutrition Movement. SPRING’s interviews with representatives from 11 of these countries illustrated the complexities inherent in sharing these findings and the potential benefits from collecting and sharing data on a topic that is known best for the lack of information available. \nJoin SPRING for a webinar to learn more about the ways in which countries have used findings from nutrition budget analysis activities to identify and coordinate nutrition across sectors\, advocate for increased funding for nutrition\, and manage the use of nutrition funds. In this webinar\, we will hear directly from country practitioners about their experiences\, including their activities\, tools\, briefs\, and graphs used. \nSpeakers\n\nGwyneth Cotes | SPRING\, Director of Global Initiatives\nJovita Sandaite | Action Against Hunger (ACF) of Sierra Leone\, Advocacy Expert\nHugh Bagnall-Oakeley | Save the Children\, Senior Hunger Policy Adviser\n\nMore information\n\nNutrition Budgeting and Financial Analysis — USAID site\nBUDGET ANALYSIS FOR NUTRITION:  A guidance note for countries — by the Scaling Up Nutrition (SUN) Movement\nTracking nutrition investments\, How much do governments invest in nutrition? – SUN site\n\nRegistration\nRegister online here. \nThe notification was provided by the FSNR working group!

SUMMARY:Webinar on Agricultural Value Chains — What’s in It for You?
DESCRIPTION:Webinar on Agricultural Value Chains — What’s in It for You?\nThis kickoff session will focus on introducing the overall concept of the ValueLinks Manual 2.0. Participants are invited to discuss which specific topics should be covered in the upcoming series of webinars\nThe sector project Agricultural Trade and Value Chains\, the SNRD working group Agribusiness and Inclusive Value Chain Development\, and the FMB cordially invite to their first online seminar. \nIs this relevant to you?\nThe webinar series is specially designed for all colleagues – in particular those from the Sector and Global Programs Department (G500) and SNRD – who get in touch with agricultural value chains as part of their project implementation. \nAbout the entire webinar series\nThe overall concept of the series hinges on an inclusive and proactive topic selection by you. Being demand-oriented means more to us than just saying it. Please have a look at the ValueLinks2.0 Manual to get an overview of which types of subjects we could delve into. \nHere are some ideas: Subject-wise\, we can include the analysis of socioeconomic\, ecological\, and gender-related aspects within value chain development\, business models and nutrition questions. However and most importantly\, we will have a closer look at the application of different tools in project context\, practical experience\, as well as challenges arising and lessons learnt. So we want to get your guidance on topics as well as on what kind of tools you would be interested to hear more of in the coming months. \nHow does this initial seminar work?\nIn this first kick-off session\, we will focus on introducing the overall concept of the ValueLinks Manual 2.0\, as well as on the discussion on which specific topics we will focus during the upcoming webinars. Andreas Springer-Heinze\, Senior Planning Officer at GIZ Eschborn will guide you through the kick-off webinar\, together with Alfons Eiligmann\, and Karina Brenneis. \nWhat’s your takeaway?\nWe want to encourage you to join the kick-off session and actively state your particular interests in certain areas related to agricultural value chains\, to get them covered in more detail during the upcoming webinar series. \nAbout the promotion of agriculture value chains\nInternational and German development cooperation has encouraged the promotion of agricultural values since the beginning of the 2000s. It is viewed as an important strategy to transform agribusiness towards more economic\, ecological and social sustainability. \nThe advancement shall lead to improved competitiveness and income increases for smallholders and workers — in agriculture itself as well as in upstream and downstream sectors. \nSince the food price crisis in 2007/2008\, strategies to promote value chains are more and more applied to support development goals around food and nutrition security\, not only reduce poverty. \nAbout the speakers\nAndreas Springer-Heinze is an agricultural economist by training and a Senior Planning Officer at GIZ Head Office in Eschborn\, Germany. He has extensive experience in the field of sustainable development. \nHe is author of the ValueLinks methodology on value chain development. In the past 12 years\, he has conducted inter-national training seminars and studies on value chain promotion in agribusiness\, bio-trade\, handicrafts\, small-scale manufacturing and tourism. \nIn 2009\, he founded the International ValueLinks Association e.V.\, together with colleagues engaged in value chain work. \nAlfons Eiligmann is a board member of the International ValueLinks Association and a ValueLinks master trainer since 2007. He facilitated more than 70 ValueLinks training courses and works as a consultant with GIZ projects in Africa and Asia. \nWhen: 17 Nov 2017\, 14.00-15.00h (CET) \nWhere:  Online via Skype4Buisness. This is a webinar for SNRD/GIZ only. \nYou already have tons of questions that you would like to ask Andreas Springer-Heinze and Alfons Eiligmann? \nPlease send your questions to Eva Maria Greber prior to the webinar. We will make sure that we cover your points during the brief presentation or we will get to them during the Q&A part of the session. \nWe are looking forward to having great discussions with you! It’s an exciting subject!
