SUMMARY:Agribusiness e-Academy
DESCRIPTION:Agribusiness e-Academy\nOrganiser: GIZ\, Agribusiness Facility for Africa \nThe GIZ Agri-Business Facility for Africa (ABF) has recently launched the Agribusiness e-Academy which offers self-paced learning opportunities in English and French. The courses foster knowledge and skills on agronomy\, entrepreneurship and economics instrumental for agribusiness practitioners\, extension agents\, teachers\, and trainers. Course contents build on proven concepts and tools to assist learners in becoming more successful agripreneurs themselves or to improve the trainings on agribusiness that they provide to others. \nInteractive and multi-media features\, knowledge tests\, fora-exchanges with other learners\, downloadable course materials and scored course certificates complete the learning experience. Many courses are already available and offered free of charge on a self-enrolment basis after an initial registration on the atingi.org online learning management system. Atingi also offers an app for offline use of previously downloaded courses. \nFurther course offers are under development and will be published in the Agribusiness e-Academy by the ABF-team. \nLink to the e-Academy (you will be forwarded to the Agribusiness e-Academy after login/registration on atingi): https://online.atingi.org/enrol/index.php?id=2801 \nContacts: Julika Stauber\, Melanie Hinderer & Simon Striegel\, GIZ\, ABF-eAcademy@giz.de

SUMMARY:Agricultural Value Chain Finance
DESCRIPTION:Online Training\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nIntroduction to Agricultural and Value Chain Finance\, including digitalization and technology in access to finance as well as climate-smart agricultural financing \n6–8 April 2022 from 9-13 CET each day (3 modules) \nIs it for you? \nThe training has been developed for national and international GIZ staff working with the agricultural or food-based sectors\, based in partner countries or at head office\, who want to explore how access to financial services can improve project beneficiaries’ lives. \nRequirements \nThis is introductory training\, and little or no financial systems development expertise is expected\, whereas a thorough understanding of agricultural value chains is required. \nThe course language is English\, therefore the ability to communicate fluently in English is required\, as well as the willingness to participate actively and share experience. \nParticipants should be prepared to invest up to 15 hours over three days (in one week) for the course and should have access to an office or other room where they can participate in online sessions without being disturbed. Basic IT literacy (including the use of MS Teams) and a stable internet connection allowing for voice and ideally video is required. \nContent details \n\nModule 1 will provide the basis for the following two days. We will discuss the reasons why financial services matter for agricultural stakeholders by looking at the financial lives of our target groups and their needs. It will cover the main concepts of financial inclusion and agricultural finance and give an overview of financial services and provider types. Finally\, we will put ourselves into the shoes of a financial institution and try to understand the obstacles to financing agriculture.\nModule 2 will cover digitalization and technology in financial inclusion and particularly agricultural lending\, as well as climate-smart agricultural financing. For both topics\, we will first look at the theoretical basics before we will be able to discuss their experiences with guest speakers from GIZ projects.\nModule 3 will look at how and where to start when planning to set up a financing component in your project. In addition\, we will look at typical set-ups and instruments GIZ offers to support these. We will also be able to talk to a guest speaker from a financial institution to hear about their initiatives as well as what they look for when collaborating with an institution such as GIZ.\n\nSpots are limited and will be allocated on a first-come\, first-served basis. \nPlease make sure to secure your spot with jakob.fischbacher@giz.de before 18 February  \nIf you have further questions\, please send an e-mail to lara.chhatwal@giz.de or bastian.domke@giz.de.

SUMMARY:How to Bridge the Gap From Gender-Sensitive to Gender-Transformative?
DESCRIPTION:Webinar on gender in agri-based value chains\nWe focus on the differences of gender-sensitive and gender-transformative approaches and how they can be applied effectively in agri-based value chains projects by sharing the Malawian examples of the GIZ Projects “More Income and Employment in Rural Areas” (Kulima MIERA) in Malawi and the “Agricultural Technical Vocational Education & Training for Women” (ATVET4W). \nGuests\n\nEva Stehle (SP AAA)\nYvonne Glorius & Elizabeth Molloy (Kulima MIERA\, Malawi)\nSara Jabril & Steffen Becker (ATVET4W\, South Africa)\n\nModeration\nCarolin Voigt\, GIZ Sector Project Agricultural Trade\, Agribusiness\, Agricultural Finance \nHost\nCarolin Voigt and & Katharina Schlemper (both SP AAA) \nIs this relevant to you?\nYou promote gender equality? You want to learn how to promote gender quality in agricultural value chains?\nYou want to learn to apply a gender-transformative approach for your value chain project and how you can measure this with an index?\nIf you can answer one or several questions with ‘yes’ our webinar will be worthwhile listening! \nYour takeaway\nWe want to encourage you to take a step further and re-think your approach to gender within your own projects and daily work.\nJoin our Webinar to learn more about this and share your knowledge with us. \nSpecial guests\nYvonne Glorius from the GIZ Project “More Income and Employment in Rural Areas” through selected value chains\, and Elizabeth Molloy who conducted two consecutive studies in Malawi for the MIERA project applying the Women’s Empowerment Framework by Longwe to explore gender dynamics of agricultural value chains and gender mainstreaming within Kulima MIERA. Aspects of membership within Farmer Organisations and decision making at household level will be of particular interest here. They will share their insights with us during the webinar. \nSara Jabril and Steffen Becker who presents the example of the ATVET4W – the stand-alone project within our agriculture and food sector with the gender marker GG2! Don’t miss this unique chance to exchange with them. Steffen will also present theWomen Empowerment in Agriculture Index (WEAI) as a newly established method to measure gender aspects. He will focus on the adapted index version for value chain projects: the proWEAI\, which may provide first insights from its application in Malawi. \nEva Stehle\, who works in the Sector Project Agricultural trade\, Agribusiness\, Agricutural Value Chains\, will kick off and set the scene with some general facts and figures regarding gender in the agri-food sector. \nJoin us and share your thoughts! \nRecording and data privacy\nWe record the webinar for the purpose of video-documentation only and will be stored on GIZ servers. The video-file can be send upon request for the exclusive purpose of knowledge management. SUMMARY:How to Integrate Living Incomes in Agricultural Value Chain Promotion?
DESCRIPTION:Webinar #12 of the ValueLinks Plus series on agricultural value chain promotion\nWe will have a closer look at the essentials of the living income concept. How is it calculated and how are living income reference prices set up? Where are we at in terms of its application right now? How should it be applied in the context of the ValueLinks approach and what will be its likely relevance in future? \nGuests\n\nEberhard Krain\, GIZ Sectoral Department (Competence Centre 4D30)\nTim Loos\, GIZ Sector Programme Sustainability and Standards in Global Agriculture Value Chains\n\nModeration\nAlfons Eiligmann\, International ValueLinks Association \nHost\nCarolin Voigt\, GIZ Sector Project Agricultural Trade\, Agribusiness\, Agricultural Finance (SP AAA) \nIs this relevant to you?\nYou promote agricultural value chains development and want to learn more about the approach of living incomes?\nYou have no idea (yet) whether living incomes are a valuable aspirational goal to strive for\, or far from achievable\, or still not high enough to make a real change towards better living conditions???\nYou want to get an idea how the approach is used within project implementation for agribased value chain promotion\, e.g. in Ghana or Malawi? \nIf the answer to one of these questions is ‘yes’\, our webinar #12 will be worth your while! We will focus on the essentials of the concept\, explain how a living income is calculated\, how a reference price is determined and how it has already benefited countries to negotiate for higher commodity prices and encouraged our own governments to think of due diligence regulations. \nOur guest Eberhard Krain will explain the concept of living incomes\, the calculation of living incomes and reference prices and tell us about his country experiences from Malawi and Madagascar. \nThe second guest\, Till Loos\, provides insights to the cocoa value chain in Ghana and Ivory Coast. He’ll tell us more about the outcomes of recent conferences in Europe. We will also briefly introduce the community of practice on living incomes. \nYour takeaway\nWebinar #12 provides an open platform for exchange amongst colleagues and experts working in the field of agricultural value chain promotion within and outside of GIZ. SUMMARY:What Works in Rural Youth Employment Promotion?
DESCRIPTION:Webinar focusing on good practices and lessons from GIZ programmes with regard to rural youth employment\nSince Africa’s (rural) youth is rapidly growing in numbers\, advising on job creation has become a major objective of development cooperation. \nFor German development employment cooperation the promotion in rural areas with a focus on youth is still a relatively new topic. While the issue is becoming more pressing\, very few projects explicitly and comprehensively address the issue. \nNevertheless\, many projects of both rural and economic development\, are addressing different aspects and a range of learning experiences is already available. The Sector Project commissioned a study to outline the different approaches to rural youth employment promotion (RYEP) within GIZ programmes and distill their main success factors and lessons learned. \nThe consultants Claudia Knobloch and Christian Pirzer of Endeva are going to present the main findings and highlight two of the 11 case studies in an interactive interview. There will be plenty of time to discuss with representatives of the featured case studies\, but also amongst each other about the results and their implications.

SUMMARY:M&E of Employment Effects in Rural Development Projects
DESCRIPTION:Training workshop in Abidjan\n\n\n\n\nWe introduce the RWI methodology to enable projects to link current intermediate outcomes to employment effects. In the workshop you’ll learn how to apply this new methodology in your projects\, specifically how to better measure and report your employment impact and effects. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTarget group/ participants \nOpen to all GIZ staff\, specifically monitoring and evaluation experts \nLanguage \nThe workshop will be conducted in English \nBackground \nIn Africa alone\, 440 million young people will enter the labour market by 2030. Therefore\, the creation of employment opportunities is a major objective in development cooperation. \nIntervenants :\n\nM. SUMMARY:Comparing the Different Use of ICT4Ag to Inform Farmers in Africa and Asia -- Upcoming Webinar
DESCRIPTION:Members of the two SNRDs will share their experiences with ICT4Ag — from Africa to Asia and vice versa! \nSNRD Africa’s ICT4Ag Community of Practice joins up with SNRD Asia to exchange on how African and Asian farmers can easily access information using latest information and communication technology for agriculture. \n\nToday’s fast-evolving ICT represents a tremendous opportunity for rural populations to improve productivity\, to enhance food and nutrition security\, to access markets\, and to find employment in a revitalized sector  (World Bank 2017\, ICT in Agriculture\, Handbook). \nYour Content Goes Here\, Your Content Goes HereSNRD Africa recently released a new study on the use of ICT in agriculture. It covers 52 ICT4Ag solutions which have been developed for 29 GIZ projects\, operating in 34 countries on both continents. \nIn order to contribute to cross-boundary exchange between the two networks\, the upcoming webinar will have a closer look at a particular ICT4Ag solution that has been applied in India — comparing it to similar implementation in Africa. Lessons-learnt will also draw from specific failures on both continents! \nIs this relevant to you? \nThe webinar is designed for project staff of agricultural and rural development projects from both SNRDs who are interested in sharing their ICT4Ag-related experiences with colleagues in other parts of the world. \nWhat will be your takeaway? \nYou will learn how to use ICT4Ag to improve farmers’ climate resilience\, provide them with access to information\, extension services and finance in two very different contexts. \nPhoto by Klaus Wohlmann\nPhoto at the top by GIZ/Angelika Jakob \nWhat will be your takeaway? \nYou will learn how to use ICT4Ag to improve farmers’ climate resilience\, provide them with access to information\, extension services and finance in two very different contexts. \nThe presenters \nThe discussion will be led by Florian Moder\, who has gained considerable insights during the setup of the Network for Information on Climate (Ex) Change (NICE+) in India.
